Form four student killed by lover

03 June 2013, 11:29 James Kabotia

A form four candidate died over the weekend after she was stabbed with a knife by her lover in Laikipia East Sub County.

The irate lover who is a watchman at a flower farm in the area is said to have met the 18 year old student at her parents’ home at Nyariginu village in Daiga division and attacked her.

It is alleged that Joseph Wamugunda, 22, stabbed the teenager several times on the stomach and head because her mother was opposed to the love affair between the two.

Veronica Wambui, a student at Nyariginu Secondary School died as she was being ferried to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Medics at the facility said that Wambui died due to excessive bleeding, adding that she could have been rescued if she had been rushed to the hospital on time.

Speaking to the media, Umande location Chief Wang’ombe Wanjau said that the assailant angrily dashed into the teenager’s house where he stabbed her severally before stabbing himself on the stomach.

However, Wang’ombe confirmed that the youthful lover who was in a critical condition was admitted at the same hospital.

“It is so sad that the candidate was stabbed severally on the stomach and head. We have heard that the girl’s mother was against their relationship,” lamented the Chief.

The administrator urged residents to be swift in alerting security agents on such incidents on time.

According to Reuben Wambugu who is a neighbor to the family, the student’s life could have been saved if she was rushed to the hospital on time.

Wambugu said that area residents were too reluctant to respond to the girl’s cry for help and even delayed contacting the security agents.
