Nairobi - Strathmore University in Nairobi is probing an incident in which close to 100 students have been affected by food poisoning.
The incident took place this week after fourth year students and staff attended a dinner.
By Tuesday, close to 40 students were admitted in hospital, while a large number were treated and discharged.
" We have launched investigations in a bid to establish the cause of food
poisoning. We have liaised with the caterer who was a service provider, the institutions chief relations officer Betty Ngala said.
" We usually use the university catering however we have vetted a number
of service providers who can provide services to the university, " she added.
Students News24 spoke to said that they felt discomfort a few hours after they ate the meal.
" Just after I ate the soup, I could tell there was something wrong, Julius Karimi, a student at the institution said.
The institution sent out a memo to students and staff to assure that the situation was under control.
" This is to let you know of the regrettable incident of food poisoning
that occurred last Friday 20th March, to our 4th year students, and
staff members who attended the Seniors Dinner, the memo said.
