Focus - Your life goes where your eyes go

30 July 2015, 11:57 Anne Muigai

Whatever choices you make in life, whether to seek employment or build business, whether to have children or not, travel the world or live in the same town all your life — whatever you do, someone will judge you for it.

For one reason or another, someone will find a reason to project their anxieties, their fears and their negativity onto you and your life, and you will have to deal with it.

It is crucial to know that just because people criticize you, it doesn’t mean they really care about your choice to do something different.

Usually, the haters simply criticize and move on. This means that you can safely ignore them and move forward with your life.

Though outside critics play a major role in derailing us from achieving what we have set out to attain, the biggest critic in your life usually lives between your own two ears.

Working up the courage to move past your own weakness and uncertainty is often the greatest challenge you’ll face on the way to achieving your goals.

When you think of starting a business, you keep asking yourself “what if it fails, what will people think of me?" When you discover a new venture, you hesitate to seize the opportunity because you fear what your peers will think of you.  Your own criticism holds you back more often than that of outsiders.

The truth about criticism is that it’s almost always in your head. The tendency to hold onto negative criticism is natural for most people. We remember negative emotions much more strongly than we remember, if ever, positive comments.

Once, renowned racing champion Andretti, asked about how to succeed said: “Don’t look at the wall. Your car goes where your eyes go.”

When you’re driving, you need to focus on the road in front of you. If you look at the wall, then you’ll end up hitting it. In life, criticism and negativity from other people or yourself is like a wall. If you focus on this wall, you will definitely run into it. You will get blocked by negative thoughts, anger, emotions, anxiety and self-doubt. Wherever you focus your mind, that is where your attention will go and eventually, you will make choices in that direction.

If you believe that you can’t make it or succeed, the choices you make are already in line with your negativity and you are most likely not to succeed.

However, if you focus on the road in front of you and move forward, then you can safely speed past the walls and barriers that are nearby.

If you’re dealing with criticism, then don’t let the wall keep you from seeing the road.

Focus on the path ahead, your life will go where your eyes go.

Choose to the positive and focus on it, visualize success and focus on it. Most importantly, make the choices that are right and important for you.

People will criticize you ANYWAY.
