Five suspected poachers arrested in Laikipia
05 August 2013, 14:07
Five suspected poachers have been arrested by police in Loniak division within Laikipia County. An AK 47 rifle with 20 rounds of ammunition and two elephant tusks were recovered from them.
Area police boss Francis Nyamatari said the officers were responding to a tip from members of the public who suspected there was an illegal activity going on in a house where the suspects were hiding.
He said the tusks are believed to have been derived from an elephant that was killed recently at Mugi ranch.
He applauded members of the public for their support against poaching and urged them to continue with the collaboration and enhance community policing in the region.
The police chief said the suspects will be arraigned in a Nyahururu court.
