Five people succumbed to death following a grisly road accident at Nyama Choma trading center in Gilgil on Sunday evening.
According to eye witnesses who spoke to the media, the accident involved a truck which was travelling from Nairobi to Nakuru before hitting six other vehicles that were coming from the opposite direction.
The eye witnesses further added that the accident might have been caused by brake failure of the truck forcing it to ram into the six vehicles.
Those who died were the truck driver, his turn boy and passengers in one of the six vehicles involved.
Rift Valley Provincial Traffic Commandant Mary Omari who visited the accident scene said that the accident might have been caused by brake failure as the truck driver tried to negotiate a sharp corner.
“This must be a case breaks failure but we are going to look more into it,” she promised.
Mary also called on drivers to be extremely careful as Nyama Choma area has been named as a black spot.
Scores of other casualties were taken to Gilgil District Hospital, St. Marys Hospital Gilgil and the Nakuru Provincial General Hospital for treatment.
A Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) bus was among the vehicles involved in the accident. It had 10 passengers on board.
