Fire razes down a secondary school
19 March 2013, 13:27
Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed during an early Tuesday morning inferno at the Sacred Heart Boys secondary school in Rongai, Nakuru.
According to the students, the fire started at around 6.00 am from the main electricity switch and quickly spread to two dormitories, food store and science laboratory.
Students made frantic efforts to put out the fire with the help of fire fighters from the Rongai workshop company, but only managed to salvage a few bags of maize and beddings.
Rongai OCPD Joseph Mwamburi said that some students noticed sparks from the main switch and later heard a loud explosion.
He called on the school management to explore ways of providing emergency escape routes saying that the school structure in its current state has limited emergency exits.
No one was injured during the incident.
