Students from Ngumo boys high school in Laikipia County last night spent the night in the cold after their timber dormitory was razed to ashes.
The school, situated about twenty kilometres from Rumuruti had no means of putting out the fire as most students were in class studying when the fire erupted and quickly engulfed the dormitory reducing it to ashes, according to Laikipia West OCPD Francis Nyamatari, who confirmed the incident.
“Some students had been sent away and we have information that some of them could have sneaked back to collect their belongings before setting the dormitory ablaze.
All personal items, beddings and the entire buildings were extensively damaged and the 82 students spent the night in their colleagues dormitories..
Nyamatari condemned the incident saying students involved would be arrested and arraigned before court to answer arson charges saying such incident negatively impacted on the education of the children.
