Fire destroys property in Kericho

Kericho - At least 18 families spent the night in the cold after fire gutted their homes at a trading centre in the outskirts of Kericho town.
It is said that the fire resulted from a motorcycle garage when an electric machine exploded.
The fire spread very fast due to the blowing wind and the woods from which the houses were made of.
Property worth thousands of shillings also went up in smoke.
The fire was however put off by members of public in collaboration with fire extinguishers from the town
Confirming the incident, Kericho police commander Mary Muchuma said the families were swiftly evacuated and investigations have been launched into the matter.
“We have launched investigations to establish the cause of the inferno. The families were swiftly evacuated and no one was injured,” said Muchuma.
Following the inferno, the victims who moved to a nearby school are now appealing to the government and well wishers to help them with foodstuff and clothes.
“All our belongings were burnt to ashes and we appeal to well wishers to help us. We also call on the government to compensate us in order to enable us move on with our lives as usual,” appealed Daniel Onyango, one of the victims.
