Fire destroys football field in Malindi

Sports activities were on Tuesday afternoon suspended indefinitely at Alaskan in Malindi district following an inferno that razed the walls of the football field.
The ground always has a lot of activities since many football teams use it for either training or championships but now they will have to hold on their horses for an unknown period of time.
Efforts by fire firefighters in the area to put off the fire were futile since they had no enough water to do so.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established according to Malindi United Football Academy coach Davis Badili.
"Initially, the field was surrounded by a wall made of iron sheets. The grasses around the field caught fire which then spread to the iron sheets making the inferno too big to be contained by the firefighters," he stated.
He added that repair of the football ground will cost KES 50 000.
"The ground is mostly used by many football teams in this area and so many activities will not continue until it is repaired," he noted.
He called the government through the ministry of sports to intervene and make sure the field is repaired in time.
