Kitale - Property of unknown value was destroyed at Kitale Police station after an apartment block at the police line caught fire.
14 police officers and their families were displaced by the fierce flames which reduced the residential block to ashes early Wednesday.
Efforts to contain the inferno proved futile as there was no fire engine. The affected officers were forced to seek alternative shelter at their colleague’s houses.

Confirming the incident, Trans-Nzoia County police commandant Lilian Okembo said the fire could have been caused by an electric fault.
“We are conducting investigations to find out what caused the fire, though we suspect it may have been caused by an electric fault,” said the police boss.
“At the same time, we are still taking stock to establish the value of the property that was gutted down,” added Okembo.
