Fierce wind leaves 3 pupils nursing injuries

Tongaren, Bungoma - Three pupils of a Primary School in Tongaren Constituency, Bungoma County, were injured Thursday afternoon after wind blew off the roofs of their classroom as they played with other children during games time.
The three were lucky to escape with soft tissue injuries in the incident that occurred after the fierce wind yanked off part of the schools iron sheets roofing carrying away part of the roof for more than 300 meters. The debris landed on the children as they played.
They were rushed to Naitiri sub-District Hospital for medical attention, where they were treated and discharged.
The school Head teacher, Moses Makhakha told journalists that the the wind totally destroyed the classrooms whose roofs were blown off. The two classrooms destroyed were used by Standard Five pupils.
"We thank God the incident happened when the children were out of their classes for games. It would have been a different story if the pupils were in class during that time, as the classrooms were totally damaged by the wind,” said Makhakha, who appealed to the area MP, Dr Eseli Simiyu through the CDF kitty to intervene and assist the learning institution to repair the damaged classrooms.
“We badly need help to enable learning to go on smoothly at the institution. We appeal to well wishers to assist us repair the damaged structures as we got no funds and the incident is an emergency,” said the Headmaster.
