How to know you are not ready for a serious relationship

27 September 2016, 13:15 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - You might want one but you may not be ready for one.

You still have drama with your ex

Clear indication of any moving on for a relationship is when you and your ex; stay out of each other’s lives. You may still be in touch or not but it is not for the small drama like – who are they dating? Who you want to date next so that you can show them…. They should not influence your relationship choices moving on. You are doing it for you and not for them. This also shows growth. When it is the opposite of all this, it means you are not ready for something new.

 You have some personal growth

Any relationship changes you. It can be for the better or for the worse. We all hope for the former. Some maturity, some class, some emotional stability and less drama. That time you take time out to be single is time for personal growth. If you lacking on all these, put yourself on pause and rethink on your decision of wanting to involve someone else in your life.

How you handle yourself emotionally

This one takes time; emotional maturity among adults is as hard to find as it is in most teenagers. It does not come with age either. If you lash out easily, don’t know how to be on your own, easily depressed and affecting everyone around you- that is called emotional immaturity and the worst decision you would make is to think you can cure it by being with someone else. That never helps, it only helps you avoid confronting the situation. You absolutely do not want that. At times you need to sit yourself down, without a television, laptop or book and ask yourself questions by the way. Especially after you lose it with someone and they point it out- do not go on the defensive but ask yourself if they are actually right.

You keep hopping from one situation to another

I do not want to call it relationship because those have meaning- yours’ don’t! Maybe it is to help you get over it or whatever, but after you are done, take time out. Not one month but some serious period.
