Fear grips Mai Mahiu as night attacks increase

Fear has gripped residents of Mai Mahiu in Naivasha over a lone man who has been hacking his victims without stealing from them.
In the last one week, over ten people have been attacked and left for the dead by the man mainly at night.

In one the incident one woman succumbed to her injuries while another man had one of his eye gouged out during the attack.
In the bizarre incident, the man has been attacking at least two people daily mainly late in the evening and early in the morning.

According to area councilor Mwangi Gikonyo the attacks had left area residents in fear with the suspect yet to be apprehended. “There is one man who has been terrorizing Mai Mahiu residents for the last two weeks and we call on the government to apprehend him,” he said.

He said that no one knew the motive of the suspect who has been attacking his victims and leaving them lying in a pool of blood.
“The most worrying thing is that he is not stealing anything from his victims and we call on members of the public to work with the police
so that he can be arrested,” he said.

The civic leader also expressed his concern over the increase in cases of cattle rustling in Satellite and Kigecha area. His sentiments were echoed by another leader John Kihiko who said that the latests two victims were attacked over the night.

He said that in the period one woman had been attacked and raped while others were nursing various injuries. “We are living in fear over these attacks and we ask police to make sure that the lone suspect is arrested and arraigned in court,” he said.

Naivasha OCPD Charles Kortok said that a swoop had been conducted in the area where some suspects had been arrested. He down played the incident noting that the number of those injured was around five and police were following some leads.

“We have some suspects in custody already and we ask members of the public to work with us so that we can nab those behind the attacks,”
he said.
