Father, son nabbed for rape

24 June 2013, 16:30 James Kabotia

A 65-year-old man and his son are being held at Ngobit police station in Laikipia for allegedly defiling two minors.

According to police, the elderly man and his son aged 35 years are suspected to have defiled the son’s daughters aged six and three-and- a- half years for the last two years.

The two were nabbed at their homes in Suguroi village in Laikipia Central district over the weekend.

A senior officer at the station who sought anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media said that they were tipped by members of public that the suspects have been engaging in sexual acts with the girls.

“We hurriedly took the two girls to Ndaragwa dispensary where the examination results revealed that they were defiled,” said the officer.

He said that the younger sister had not been badly abused but had a wound on the outer side of her sexual organ.

The girls’ grandfather who is a small scale trader at Wiyumiririe trading centre along the Nyeri - Nyahururu road is said to have been defiling the three - year - old girl while his son is said to be committing the beastly act with his six - year - old daughter.

The officer said that the mother of the girls was afraid to report the matter to neighbours or the authorities because her husband had been threatening to slice her with a knife.

However, the source revealed that she recorded a statement with the police as a prosecution witness.

They are expected to be arraigned in court.

On Sunday, members of the public and children’s rights activists reacted angrily over the incident.

One More Day for Children organization Executive Director Hellen Gathogo urged that the suspects be charged with sexual offences.

Gathogo said that his organization is keenly monitoring to see whether the police will indeed arraign them in court cautioning them not to think of doing anything fishy over the matter.
