Vihiga - A ten-year-old boy is nursing injuries at the Vihiga Hospital in Mbale after his father allegedly beat him for failing to buy him a packet of cigarettes.
The class-three boy from Ikumba sub-location, Vihiga Constituency, suffered the wrath of his chain-smoking father, Joseph Dori Tuesday evening.
According to witnesses, the pupil at Emanda Primary School had been sent to buy groceries and cigarettes by his father but he forgot to purchase a packet of cigarettes for him.
"The boy who was sent a few items bought everything except the packet of cigarettes and this might have angered his father who descended on him immediately without waiting for another explanation," said one of the witnesses.

Area Assistant Chief, Kennedy Agama said the boy had bruises on the head and hands that were swollen.
The boy's mother is said to have been away attending a funeral at a neighboring village when the incident occurred.
Agama said the suspect, who is still at large, took off after the incident and that police are pursuing him to answer to the charges leveled against him.
Cases of child abuse have been rampant in the sub-location. A few months ago, two women were arrested for allegedly being involved in a child-trafficking scandal.
