Nyeri - A 48-year-old woman was allegedly raped and brutally murdered by her farmhand at Thunguri village near Mukurwe-ini town.
Area Sub-County commissioner, Isaac Masinde said police have launched manhunt for the suspect.
The incident attracted condemnation by local leaders who said it might be as a result of increased drug abuse and substance use among the local youth.
“Margaret Ruguru had told me that the farmworker was behaving strangely and she suspected he was using bhang. She had also informed her husband that the young man was sexually harassing her,” said a neighbor.

A local politician, Njoroge Ngari said that four murders have been reported in Mukurwe-ini over the last 10 days, saying police should arrest those selling bhang to the youth in the area.
“A teacher was recently killed while heading home, a local youth killed by a colleague before members of the public lynched him and two women perished in a mysterious fire incident recently. These cases must be well investigated since it seems the youth are using drugs too much,” he said.
He challenged police to apprehend suspected drug peddlers in the area.
