Nakuru - Workers belonging to Kinoru farm in Bahati on Monday afternoon held a peaceful demonstration over delayed payment of their salaries.
The over 300 workers said that they have been working under harsh conditions yet they have not received a penny for the last two months.
They added that their employer has been giving false promises that he would pay them at the end of the month, promises he has never fulfilled.
Addressing the media during the demonstration, the workers Chairman, Samuel Mwangi, said that it was regrettable that the workers were living in a deplorable conditions despite being employed.
“We work under extreme harsh conditions but it is very sad to see we have not been paid for the last two months,” he lamented.
Mwangi said that they had an agreement that the workers be paid after every two weeks but so far the management has not honoured the terms of the contract.
He further revealed that they have been denied to join NSSF and other retirement programmes.
He also divulged that their efforts to seek audience with the employer have been fruitless.
“Whenever we call for a meeting, they never show up and they have been doing this for the last three years,” Mwangi said.
The workers now want the Ministry of Labor to intervene and help them get their pay from their employer.
