Nyeri - A 19-year-old man who was among the 148 people killed in Garissa University by Al Shabaab militants was the only child of a family at Munyange village Othaya, Nyeri County.
Jeff Minjire Macharia's mother, Irene Wairimu, is currently hospitalized at a Nairobi hospital due to the shock she suffered after receiving news of her son's death.
Jeff was in his first year in campus, pursuing a degree in Information Technology and Computer Sciences at Garissa University College.
When Wairimu gave birth to Minjire, doctors discovered that she had a severe congenital heart problem and advised her against having more children.

Jeff’s uncle, Samuel Githige described the deceased as hardworking, social, faithful and indeed the love of the extended family.
“He was loved by all in the village. We have suffered a big blow since he was the only child to his parents and also their only hope. His father had taken a bank loan to finance his education. But has all gone down the drain,” said Githige as tears flowed down his cheeks.
He noted that Jeff had lived in Garissa in less than a year having joined the campus in November, 2015.
When the media visited the family at their home, Jeff’s father, James Minjire and other relatives had visited the Nairobi Chiromo Mortuary to identify his body.
