Nyeri - A woman and her young daughter narrowly escaped death Sunday night after a group of suspected thugs invaded their homestead and burnt their house down.
The family living in Ngangarithi Estate reported that the thugs broke into the house through the window.
Cases of theft targeting household items, livestock and chicken are on the increase in the area.
Esther Kariuki, the owner of the house, said she woke up at 4.00am when she saw a man inside her house attempting to steal household items.
She added that the man was holding a match stick and the room was smelling petrol fuel.

She raised the alarm and neighbours came to her rescue.
“My child almost got burnt in the bedroom but neighbours managed to rescue her,” said Esther.
The motive of the suspects has not yet been identified.
