Pharmacy shops operating illegally in the Nakuru County face immediate closure,the South Rift Drugs Inspector has warned.
Julius Kawai notes that some of the drug shops are being operated regardless of the laid down medical services and public health regulations.
Kawai noted of the posed danger the chemist expose to Kenyans when operated with people who lack sufficient knowledge and experience to serve its customers.
“Dealing with human drugs without the required knowledge not only poses danger to human health but also deprives them the right to healthy life,” said Kawai yesterday in Nakuru.
Kawai challenged the human drug industry players to equip themselves with the knowledge of detecting counterfeit drugs to avoid selling drugs harmful to human health.
“My office is open to anybody willing to learn on how to detect fake drugs.This is not only just a way of complying with the standardized rules but also a way of protecting lives of many people,” noted the South Rift Drug Inspector.
He also urged them to use safe storage methods as well as observe recommended hygienic standards while dispensing the drugs.
“Some of the pharmacy shops store drugs in a manner open to contamination. Since the beginning of this year we have recorded over 237 cases in the South Rift region.They are in varying stages in various courts in the areas,” said Kawai adding that his office will continue to conduct field swoops on the drugstores.
This he noted could deter quacks who could be mark timing to enter into the industry.
He appealed to the pharmacy owners to always strive to comply with the medical and public health rules and regulations to avoid clashing with the law.
He at the same time challenged the public to be wary of quacks selling fake counterfeit drugs in their neighbourhood.
“During our fieldwork inspection we also disseminate important information that can help the human drug industry players to comply with the laid down rules. It is important that the players seek our advice. The public also has a responsibility over their health, they should avoid buying drugs from bogus chemists,” said Kawai.
