Massive bomb explosions at Lol Daiga animal ranch in Laikipia East has led to a fierce fire that burnt more than 1 000 acres of land.
The British Army Training Unit in Kenya (BATUK) soldiers were practicing at the ranch as usual on Thursday evening when the explosions occurred.
According to former Naibor ward councilor Isaac Githui, the roaring fire escalated rapidly in the ranch due to tall dry grass and trees, adding that tension had gripped residents of Nyakumu village.
Githui said that the soldiers, ranch workers and the entire Muramati location residents were exerting concerted efforts to put off the fire.
He added that the British Army fire brigade arrived on time but the fire was too severe.
According to a source who did not want to be mentioned, the Nanyuki Municipal Council declined to send their fire extinguishers to the scene saying that the distance to Lol Daiga is long.
By the time of going to press, the blaze had not been put off.
