Nyeri - Former Chief Justice, Evans Gicheru has been found asleep in a thicket at Aberdare Country Club, Nyeri County, after he went missing while on New Year holiday tour.
Gicheru was found following intensive searches by police and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers at the hotel forest.
A group of doctors was sent to the scene to attend him before he was ferried with an ambulance to a room in the resort.
He was later evacuated to Nairobi by a KWS helicopter for further medical check ups.
According to police reports, the former senior State Counsel is diabetic and it is suspected that he fell down due to the disease and the scorching sun.
Police said Gicheru was wandering within the hotel precincts and had left his wife, Margret Gicheru in their room.
He however failed to go back to the room in the evening, prompting his wife to raise alarm to the hotel management and the searches kicked off.
Overnight efforts by the resort’s security team to search him were futile and were forced to seek assistance from the government administration on Friday morning.
Area County Commissioner Micheal Mwangi and police commander Agnes Lihabi led the team that found Gicheru in the bushy area.
However, journalists could not have a word with the former Chief Justice since they were barred at the club’s entrance.
