Drama unfolded on Tuesday morning at Ruring’u shopping center in Nyeri County after a middle-aged man cut the finger of his colleague over a mandazi row.
The man is believed to have walked into a hotel where he ordered for breakfast. It was after taking his breakfast that the hotel owner demanded his money that the man repudiated to pay.
The entrepreneur followed him outside only for the customer to attack him causing grievous harm on his body. He also removed a knife from his pocket and slashed one of the entrepreneur’s fingers.
The assailant tried to escape but was cornered and arrested by a group of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camping around the area.
They rained blows on him before handing him over to Ruring’u police post officers.
According to Joyce Wanjiru an IDP who witnessed the incident, the man pretended to be a crook and wanted to leave the hotel without settling his bill.
She said she was at the camp when she heard screams and saw two men chasing each other.
The victim was saved from the angry mob by church members who were attending a morning service and pleaded with them to hand him over to police.
