Encroachment of Muliro Gardens

Kakamega Muliro Gardens hit the headlines last year after photos of immorality were highlighted on the internet and some of the local newspapers.
The photos captured people having sex at the recreational ground, forcing clergymen from the region to hold prayers to cleanse the garden. The garden known to host big political rallies, national meetings and religious crusades may soon be no more if it is not protected. Cars are parking allover the garden. Town service operators from town to Shirere have also claimed part of the garden as their stage.
The once forested and fenced garden has been left without the fence and the trees are slowly being cut leaving it bear.
Structuring of Kakamega town left many businesses paralyzed. It forced some business people to settle along the roads, while some are slowly encroaching on the garden.
When bicycles used to be the only means of transport, the famous boda boda operators used to learn road safety lessons at the park. The place was well equipped with a children's traffic park which has now turned to be bushy and grassy and no one seems to care.
The lessons could have been of great benefit to motorbike operators who operate in the town and cause a lot of accidents because they are not trained.
