Nyeri - Grief and somber mood engulfed residents of Tambaya village in Mukurweini, Nyeri County, as they lowered the body of a six-year-old girl who was killed on her birthday to her final resting place.
The girl, who was supposed to celebrate her sixth birthday merrily with her family, was allegedly strangled to death by an assailant who later dumped her body in a septic tank.
The minor had been left home alone when the killer sneaked through the fence, stripped and strangled her before escaping.
It was an emotional sendoff for the pre-unit pupil who was the centre of love of her family.

Her father, Charles Ngunjiri said he was eagerly looking forward to surprise her second born child with a birthday gift that evening but would sadly never see her again.
Ngunjiri said he was called by neighbours while at work and hurriedly rushed home only to find the body of her daughter floating inside the tank.
“I felt so bitter because I really loved and adored my daughter. I requested a doctor at Mukurwe-ini Hospital to conduct a postmortem on her body and the report revealed that she was indeed strangled,” said mourning Ngunjiri.
'Pressured by some devil'
The attacker who was identified as Peter Njoroge Mwangi was arrested by villagers when they spotted him strolling around the compound during burial preparations.
The grieved father said the suspect boldly confessed to the irate residents that he committed the heinous act before been frog-marched to Mukurwe-ini police station.

“When I asked him why he brutally murdered my daughter, he answered: "I opted to sneak into your compound and kill the girl because I was been pressured by some devils.”
It is alleged that Njoroge had made another confession that his aim was to kill six other girls in the Constituency to reach a target of ten.
Mukurwe-ini police boss, Beatrice Kimoning confirmed that the suspect was in police custody.
“The body of the girl was discovered by her elder sister since her clothes scattered around the water tank. She raised alarm and neighbours responded immediately,” said Kimoning.
The OCPD said her team will not sweep the matter under the carpet until justice prevails.
