Elders hide youths planning to disrupt elections

01 March 2013, 16:23 Alloys Musyoka

Security officers in Magarini are investigating reports that three elders in the area are keeping groups of armed youths who are said to be going to Tana River to cause chaos during election which is only two days away.

The youths swho are suspected to be members of a certain illegal group which the security officials did not want to disclose are said to be from Kilifi district making their way to Tana River county through Magarini as they make stop overs to consult certain elders.

"Some of you are hiding youths who are targeting to go to Tana River county to cause chaos but let me make it clear we are coming for you very soon because we have identified three elders and our officers are following that information very keenly," he noted.

Malindi district police chief Kiprono Lang'at said they have received information which they are following to ensure that they arrest the trio and the youths as well.

'As neighbours, we have life to live'

He said the elders who have already been identified are from Dagamra, Garashi and Marafa saying that the security department will not tolerate any one planning to cause chaos or disrupt peace in the area or any other place.

"We will not give any chance to some one or group of people to disrupt peace in this area by causing chaos because election will only be once and that's all but as neighbors we have life to live," he observed.

Lang'at was addressing locals at Marafa during the launch of a campaign organized by Action Aid to promote education in the area.

He warned those who will be caught in criminal gangs planning to disrupt elections that they will face the full force of the law.

The OCPD assured locals that they have put all security measures to ensure peace and urged locals to come out in large number during elections so that they can vote.
