Elaine Mwangi crowned Miss Nakuru County 2013

18 November 2013, 10:16 Wilshere

Nakuru - Elaine Mwangi, from Nakuru East, was crowned the Miss Nakuru county 2013 on Saturday night after trouncing 10 other girls.

In a hotly contested competition, Helen Mwanzia and Marcy Kwamboka both from Nakuru West took the second and third positions respectively

Eleven girls from the 11 sub-Counties in Nakuru took the runway hoping to win the title and represent the County at the National level.

In a ceremony attended by many local residents at the Nakuru Sports club, the 11 models were expected to showcase different attires ranging from casual official wear to traditional attires.

Apart from modeling, the contestants were also expected to have diverse knowledge of the County.

The judges asked each model to explain what they would change if crowned Miss. Nakuru County 2013.

While giving their verdict, Judge Noni Gathoni  said that the winner, Elaine Mwangi, managed to observe all the required rules while on the runway.

Gathoni said that the newly crowned Miss. Nakuru County was also well informed about the County.

“She was able to answer all our questions correctly and that shows that apart from her beauty, she has a better understanding of her County,” she said.

Nakuru County governor, Kinuthia Mbugua, who was also among the dignitaries who graced the beauty contest, said his government remains committed to promoting talent among the youth.

He further said that plans are also in the pipeline to make the event an annual one to help identify more talents at the grassroots level.

“Am very glad with this event because it has shown that we have so many untapped talents among the youth and that’s why we have to support them,” he said.

Executive for Trade and Tourism in the County, Sam Gitau, said that his office will continue to work with all youths in the County to help in promoting their talents.
