Mombasa - Eight Somali nationals have been charged before a Mombasa Law Court for being illegally in Kenya.
Ahmed Omar Aden and seven others denied the charges before magistrate Irene Ruguru.
It is alleged that the eight were arrested on April 7, 2014 in Majengo Mapya area within Mombasa County.
The immigration prosecutor, Sang Kipkoech informed the court that the accused were found living in a house within the area without permission form the Immigration Department.
“The accused are alleged to be among a group of Somali nationals who have escaped the refugee camps in Daadab,” said Kipsang.
They were released on a cash bail of KES 100 000 with a surety of similar amount.
The case will be heard on April 25, 2014.
The arrest comes only two days after the launch of operation Linda Usalama by the interior cabinet secretary Joseph ole Lenku in an effort to fight terror.
Kipsang said the immigration and security officers are on high alert following the increased number of illegal immigrants within the coastal region.
