Nyeri - Three armed robbers entered the Eco Bank Karatina branch and made away with KES 5.4 million, Mathira OCPD Rashid Mohammed has said.
The police chief said the three men, one of whom was armed with a pistol, walked straight to the branch operations manager office and demanded keys to the strong room where he stole the money.
He said the bank was the only one in the region that operated business without security services from armed police following a request by the institution.
According to Mohammed, the situation under which the robbery was executed was questionable and seemed to be an inside job.
He however said that police have launched investigations into the matter and are interrogating some people in connection with the robbery.
