EACC names list of fake detectives and agents

05 June 2015, 18:09 Victor Tinto

Nairobi - The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commision EACC has named a list of persons its says are fake detectives and agents, warning members of the public to avoid them.

The EACC says that the revelation is a warning to members of the public to be aware of individuals falsely presenting themselves as officials.

In a statement sent to newsrooms Friday, the commission has said the individuals contained in a list posted for circulation have been extorting money and other benefits from members of the public.

" Several such offenders have been arrested while attempting to fraudulently obtain money from individuals, purportedly to facilitate the evasion of investigations and/or prosecution for real or imagined corruption allegations," CEO Halakhe Waqo said.

Waqo called on all members, especially public officials who he said are prime targets for the fraudsters should insist on the officials providing proof of identification.

" Should any member of the public suspect the official, they should insist to be interviewed at the commission’s premises, or report the individual to should their identity still be in doubt", the statement added.
