Duale warns ODM to stop tarnishing URP

24 September 2014, 19:18 William Korir

Nairobi - Majority Leader in the National Assembly Aden Duale says that the Orange Democratic Movement ODM are hypocrites to criticize others over good governance practices.

Duale was reacting Wednesday to accusations by ODM Tuesday that the United Republican Party URP was to blame for the violence surrounding referendum politics in the country.

He believes that considering ODM's past record concerning violence, they have no grounds to accuse or educate others on strong practices.

" I find it amusing that ODM can criticize URP over violence, he said in his office.

" The issue over referendum violence has been mostly occasioned by themselves and their followers. We saw what happened to the president in Migori and then they can come out to say that URP has a problem? he asked.

ODM insist that comments against the referendum by Jubilee coalition leadership of which URP is a partner are to blame for violence witnessed especially in the North Rift region.

Duale though says that the police are yet to state anything of that sort and has urged ODM to seek counsel before making such claims.

" We do not have any evidence on the table implicating URP or any affiliate Jubilee party with the violence and until they produce such, then it is all just talk, he added.

Duale insisted that members of the Jubilee coalition have always welcomed pro-referendum supporters to campaign in their regions.

" We have advocated severally for peace in the country especially when concerning referendum matters and we continue to urge tolerance between all people, he added.
