Nairobi - Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale has urged calm on the proposed pay increase fronted by senators saying that they are not yet written in stone.
There has been a huge public outcry over the proposed pay rise for senators, which if approved will see them earn close to KES 2.4 million a month.
The supposed changes have raised concern from various stakeholders who have complained that the huge pay-rise is unfathomable.

But Khalwale insists that the proposals are just that, and has asked Kenyans to be calm over the matter and not spread messages that may put Senators unfairly on the spot.
" Look, they are just proposals. They have not been debated in the house. I would like Kenyans to see it that way, he said.
" There have been many stories that cannot be substantiated and I ask that the truth be told over the matter and not allow over-reaction that has been seen so far, he added.

Parliament Wednesday threatened to sack the Parliamentary Service Commision if they agreed to the changes.
Led by majority leader Aden Duale, they insisted that the pay-rise was out of order and if it was executed, they would be a slap to the faces of Kenyans.
" There is no way such changes can be instituted. They are out of order and unreachable. We will take action if they are passed, he said.
" We will sack the PSC if they approve it, he added.
