Nairobi - Parliamentary chiefs have called on the re-tabling of a controversial bills in the house aimed at gagging the media.
Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has said that it is unconstitutional for some of the proposals to even be thought about and believes that they represent a face that the house does not want to be viewed with.
" I suggest that this Bill be re-tabled to ensure that the controversial clauses are looked at as in their current state they will be oppressive and unconstitutional," he said Thursday.
" There is need for further reflection. All is not gone and this can be salvaged," he added.
Majority leader Aden Duale also called on the Bills to be re-looked at.
" We do not want to pass the message that Kenyans cannot know what is going on in the house. That is not a good image," he stated.
The Powers and Privileges Bill 2015 has been tabled by MP Aden Keynan who feels that too much unchecked material is written by journalists and wants them to ensure that it is more than true before publishing it.
If not re-tabled, it will be left to President Uhuru Kenyatta to decide the fate of the Bill by either ascending to it or shooting it down and having it returned to the House.
