Duale: Homosexuality equal to terrorism

26 March 2014, 18:52 William Korir

Nairobi - Majority leader in parliament Aden Duale has compared homosexuality to terrorism saying it needs to be eradicated fast.

Duale, speaking in parliament while responding to a query from MPs on what the government is doing to ensure that homosexuality is handled in the right manner insisted that it was a vice that needed to be eradicated.

He did however stop short of saying that the government will do all in its power to stop homosexuality like is the case in Uganda.

" Homosexuality is dangerous and needs to be addressed like we are doing so terrorism, he said.

" That is not to say we will go Uganda's way, because even though it is a problem, it needs to be approached in ways that will ensure constitutional rights are not broken, he said.

He added that there was also need to emphasize sensitization of the issue to Kenyans who have been rocked by several incidences in recent years.

Duale also called homosexuality a western phenomenon and said that it should not in any way be accepted in the country.

That said, he insisted that the country will not go Uganda's way just yet in its fight on the menace.

" The police have so far handled 595 cases and that is all that can be done for now because of the constitutional pledges that have to be protected. There remain challenges in prosecution of these cases which have to be addressed, he added.

Uganda has witnessed cuts in aid since president Yoweri Museveni ascended to the country's gay law early this month, with western nations saying they will not support inhuman action against perfectly normal human beings.
