Sotik - An administration Police Officer is being held at the Sotik Police Station for allegedly shooting a trader in the town.
It is reported that a disagreement ensued between the officer and the trader, who is a chang’aa seller, over a bribe.
Confirming the incident, Sotik sub-County Commissioner Elmi Shaffi said the officer who was on patrol committed the act under influence of the brew.
“The officer was on patrol and then decided to visit the joint. However, a disagreement ensued between him and the said trader and he shot him on the leg,” said Shaffi.
According to the commissioner, members of the public collaborated with other officers on patrol to arrest the AP while the victim was taken to Kaplong Mission hospital.
The culprit is a chang’aa addict and has been under rehabilitation.
Shaffi said he will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
“As for now, I would like to urge members of the public to remain calm,” noted Shaffi.
