Drug addict escapes police custody

There was drama at the Malindi police station on Wednesday when a suspected drug abuse addict from Maweni village in Malindi district escaped from the police station.
Everybody outside Malindi police station was surprised and almost their mouths remained wide opened when the suspected drug abuse addict ran away and behind he was followed by several youths who finally arrested him.
Mr. Salim Omar Edward was brought at the police station by her sister after he threatened to kill her when she refused to give him money.
Omar, together with his accomplice, her sister told journalists that they came at her homestead at night and threatened to kill her if she refused to give her bother money so that he can be able to buy drugs.
Her sister, who also brought to the police station a knife Omar used to threaten her live, said she managed to mobilize youths in her village who arrested her bother and took him to police station.
When he was being interrogated at the police station her sister said he requested permission to answer a call of nature but instead he escaped and ran away.
Locals who were outside the police station were entertained by the afternoon incident where youths who had brought Omar at the police station pursued him until they again arrested him back to the police station.
“He had requested permission to go to the toilet but he used a small opening and ran away but we noticed and followed him. We then managed to arrest him again before he disappeared from our reach,” the youths told journalists as they pushed Omar to the police station.
Her sister complained of harassment and daily deaths threats by her brother whom she said was drug abuse addict.
She said they (family) have tried their best by taking him to rehabilitation centers when they discovered that he was a drug abuse addict for the last seven years but all in vein.
“For the last 7 years when we discovered that my brother is a drug abuse addict we took him to several rehabilitation centers but he have not changed until he now begun to threaten to kill me if I refuse to give him money,” she lamented.
She said they decided to take him to police station so that he can be prosecuted for threatening her life and also to be locked there until his behavior change.
“He has become a threat to everyone in our family so we want him to be prosecuted and remain behind bars until he changes his behaviors,” said her sister.
