Drug abuse in Msa blamed on irresponsible parenting

Mombasa - Parents in the coastal region have been faulted for setting bad examples for their children when it comes to drug abuse.
This is after it was realized that many youths who are abusing drugs in the region have picked the habit from their parents.
This was brought to limelight by a local youth activist, Khamisi Juma Mwaguza after a survey revealed that most youths abusing Khat and Bhang have been raised by parents who abuse the same drugs.
Speaking to the media during the release of the report, Khamisi said that the survey cites Mombasa and Lamu as the most affected regions.
“It is so sad that as different organizations fight tooth and nail to save the coastal youth, parents are not putting any efforts to save their children.
Khamisi said that in most areas where the survey was done, it was established that parents and children use the drugs together.
Even though lack of jobs and poverty are some of the factors that have forced the youth to resort to chewing of khat to kill idle time, it is vital for the anti-drug campaigners to start by educating the parents on the side effects of drug abuse.
