Nairobi - A lorry driver accused of causing death of two people through reckless driving was on Wednesday released by a Nyeri court on a bond of KES 500 000.
Washington Gichengo denied two counts of causing the deaths of a motorist, Peterson Makumi and a pedestrian, Isaac Muriithi through careless driving.
He allegedly committed the offence on July 3, 2013 at around 7.30 am along Nyeri-Karatina road while driving his Mitsubishi lorry.
The accused person appeared before acting senior principal magistrate Christine Wekesa.
He was said to have lost control before he veered off the road and rammed onto the deceased’s car killing him on the spot and thereafter knocking down the pedestrian who was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.
His case was adjourned to October 17.
