Nyeri - Police in Nyeri are holding a matatu driver at Narumoru police station for assaulting a traffic police officer.
The officer was manning a road block along the Nyeri-Nanyuki highway when he flagged the over speeding Public Service Vehicle (PSV) to stop.
The driver of the vehicle defied the order and instead ran over the road block.
The tyres were punctured forcing the vehicle to stop, about 100 metres away.
He alighted the matatu and upon interrogation by the police, he began hurling insults and attacking the officer.
The driver slapped the cop severally and tore his uniform down.
Shocked passengers however intervened to rescue the police officer from further attacks, and escorted the driver to the police station where he was locked up awaiting court trial.
