Drama as a 60-year-old man marries, impregnates daughter-in-law

03 March 2015, 10:33 Ben Wafula

Bungoma - Angry residents of Mayekwe village in Lwandanyi sub-location, Sirisia, torched the house of a 60-year-old man who is alleged to have married his son’s wife and impregnated her.

Andrew Wangusi, who is also an employee of the Sirisia MP's office was forced to run for his life, hiding at Lwandanyi Police Post as angry residents bayed for his blood.

The randy old man is said to have inherited his son's wife, whereupon he married and impregnated her.

It is alleged that the son, who is a student at Kabianga University, had impregnated a lady from Kisii late last year after which he took her as wife and rented her a house before reporting back to school since he had another wife.

Peter Khaemba, the village elder, said that the suspect saw her daughter-in-law's loneliness and decided to lure her with goodies.

“The son decided to rent a house for his new wife at Lwandanyi market and went back to school, but the old man capitalized on her daughter-in-law's loneliness to prey on her,” said Khaemba.

The boy's mother, Beatrice Simiyu, said that the old man used to leave his home every evening never to return. Little did she know that he used to spent his nights at his son’s house.

It is alleged that the old man advised his daughter-in-law to abort the five-month pregnancy by his son, which she heeded before the father-in-law decided to build her a house built and take her as a second wife without the son’s knowledge.

The old man became wild and chased his first wife to give room to the new wife, but their new marriage was ruined when the older woman found out that her alleged co-wife was her daughter-in-law.

“This made me to alert the elders because it is a taboo in our Bukusu community for a man to marry his son’s wife and it can lead to death,” she said amid tears.

By the time of going to press, the randy old man was still holed up at the AP's camp as angry residents chanted circumcision songs waiting for him to emerge so that they could 'teach him a lesson'.

The alleged lady who is now two months pregnant by the old man fled after the angry residents torched her house.

The boy is yet to receive the news on what his father has done.
