Donkeys stolen and slaughtered

22 May 2012, 16:08Steve Wambugu

Residents of Nakuru are in shock after 5 donkeys which were stolen were found slaughtered and its intestines abandoned along Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

The incident came a few days after residents of Lanet area enjoyed a delicacies of a hippo which was shot dead by KWS officers where families went home with a piece according to the strength to scramble for the rare treat.

A month ago resident of Gioto were overwhelmed when a man testified of slaughtering and selling of dog meat and soup to people suffering from epilepsy.

A herder who identified himself as Moses was looking after his animals yesterday morning in the area saw a heap of meat and curiously went closer to witness only to realize there were parts of donkey hence notifying the residents.

“I saw pieces of meat which was spreading and though maybe it was animal being predated upon by wild animal but to my surprise I saw some donkey organs which were abandoned” Moses said.

According to one of the donkey owners Boniface Kamau, he was shocked on Saturday morning after he went to feed his three donkeys but none were in sight.

“I reported at Mwariki Police station on the same day together with another farmer who lost his two donkeys and started the search to Naivasha but our efforts were in vain” Kamau said.

The police from the Mwariki Station visited the scene but no arrest have been made nor confinement of the meat which is allegedly being targeted to be sold to the meat consumer in the area or transported to Naivasha.

Residents especially those fond of meat are in a state of dilemma as they are not aware of what do because the destination of the meat have not been recovered.
