Discover the Energy Suck Model
28 July 2015, 19:00
Nairobi - Today, I wish to share something that has brought so much radiance and power into my life, kept me going during tough and stressful times; The Self Energy Suck.
Many times I have found myself overwhelmed by life, its struggles, demands and chaos. Sometimes, I have had to deal with negativity from within and without. I have had to stamp out negative thoughts in my head that tell me, “you can’t do it, it’s impossible!”. I have had to develop ways of shunning my gut killers; friends who always manage to find an odd in everything I do. It is unfair for you to weigh yourself down by thinking that you cannot achieve anything. Believe you me, you will not forgive yourself a few years to come for not trying. If you can learn how to silence the negative voice inside you and use negative criticism as a building block, you will be sure to succeed.
To be successful, you have to find your Energy Suck, and it’s always inside of you.
Mine was negativity from within and without. To deal with it, I have developed optimism. I have chosen to focus on the positive side of every situation. When my Philosophy lecturer said once, “ Let your unspoken word match your spoken word”, I did not quite understand. Months later, I’m using this concept to encourage others as I’m slowly learning to integrate it in my everyday situations.
It’s simple; you should always endeavor to prophesy good for yourself. Just like you keep thinking, wishing and praying God to make you successful, speak similarly. Say you can do it and that you will make it. Whatever it is, your spoken word should never contradict your prayer word.
With that in mind, it’s time to find your Energy Suck. What weighs you down? What pulls you back? It’s time to deal with it.
If your clique is a bunch of negative friends, it’s time to move on. Don’t be afraid to leave behind people who are not adding value to your life. If social media and your social life are a setback in accomplishing your goals and tasks, ditch it or at least limit your time there. Have a plan on how to carry out tasks in order of priority. Liking your pal’s old photos on Facebook is not as urgent as working on your school or work project. Hanging out at the new club should not even crop up if you have tasks pending.
This week, this month and this year, I hope you identify your Energy Sucks and deal with them.
