Deputy Prime Minister calls for peace

21 January 2013, 11:18Anthony Muriuki

Jubilee presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta has urged politicians to keep their parties aside and embrace peace and unity ahead of the general elections.

Speaking at Kaaga Methodist Church in Imenti North District, the presidential hopeful said all politicians need to unite and preach peace to avoid dividing Kenyans as the country gear towards the general election.

He noted that the unity of politicians despite their party affiliations will set a good foundation for a peaceful election on March 4th polls.

Addressing a gathering during the induction of the first woman Methodist Bishop Catherine Mutua, Uhuru said Kenyans need to unite despite of their tribal background to achieve a peaceful transition  after the general elections.

Accompanied by the area former MPs  Silas Muriuki, Gitobu Imanyara  and Cooperative Minister Joe Nyagah, the Jubilee coalition flag bearer pointed out that a peaceful election would be achieved if politicians observe peaceful campaigns.

“Let's all embrace peace by preaching unity in spite of our parties and the tribe we belong to. We are all Kenyans of the same nation," said Uhuru.

He also urged the Meru community to rally behind him since he is the best suited presidential candidate to succeed President Mwai Kibaki.

The Former Gatundu South Mp said he is ready to serve and unite all Kenyans in a bid to boost the economy and living standards of Wananchi.

He also recommended the Methodist church for their move to promote women leadership by appointing the first woman Bishop in the country.

“Leadership is needed in church and other sectors and appointments need to be done without discrimination. Women also can lead and a leader comes from God," added Uhuru.

The Meru County Senate Seat candidate Gitobu Imanyara also urged the Meru Community to unite and vote wisely come the March 4th  polls.
