DPP orders Kimunya's prosecution over disposal of public land

Nairobi - Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko has ordered for the prosecution of former Minister Amos Kimunya over charges of abuse of office and the disposal of 25 acres of public land in Nyandarua.
A statement from the DPP’s office said Kimunya should be charged together with two other people namely, Mrs. Lilian Njenga, formerly Director of Land Adjudication and Mr. Junghae Wainaina, the Chairman of the Board of M/S Midlands Limited.
It is alleged that Kimunya, whilst he was the Minister of Lands, caused the said land to be allocated to M/S Midlands Ltd, a company in which he was a director without the consent of the Ministry of Agriculture.
“The charges are in connection with a 25-acre piece of public land located in Njabini, Nyandarua County, which was part of a 75-acre land belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture reserved for potatoes seed multiplication project,” Tobiko said in the statement.
The investigation was carried out by the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) and the DPP said that there was sufficient evidence to charge the three due to public interest.
However, the DPP was quick to add that the three are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial. “As such, it would be inappropriate for him to comment on the matter further,” said the DPP.
