Nairobi - The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Keriako Tobiko has appealed against the release of a head teacher who allegedly beat a pupil to death in Kirinyaga County.
James Kariuki, a head teacher at Roka Preparatory School was released by a court on a KES 500,000 bail but the DPP has now appealed against his release to the High Court.
It is alleged that Kariuki hit and injured Martin Muchiri, a standard seven pupil, on the head using a wooden stick for making noise.
Muchiri died on arrival at Karira Mission Hospital.
The incident angered parents who stormed the school and threatened to burn it down accusing the head teacher of murder.
The school was closed down indefinitely as investigations into the matter continues.
