DJ Mo dumps Groove Awards
10 June 2014, 19:28
Nairobi - Barely a week after winning 3 awards at the 2014 Groove Awards, DJ Mo, one of Kenya’s finest gospel DJ’s has decided to step down from contention for next year’s awards.
This comes as other big name artists also stepped down to pave the way for the up and coming young artists in the industry. The two most notable ones who stepped down from this year’s awards are Gloria Muliro and Willy Paul, who work closely together and are by far some of the biggest names in the East African Gospel scene.
He wrote a short message to his fans breaking this news and thanking them for their support and for his wins over the just recently concluded groove awards.
"I want to thank all those who voted for me. I am very grateful. However, this is my last year. Next year, I will not be participating in the category for best gospel DJ. I will leave it for new and upcoming acts. I am not the first gospel DJ to win the award three times in a row. The first was DJ Moz. Now I want to pass on the banner to others, to help nurture new talent, wrote the DJ.
With some of these artists paving the way for the growth and development of the youth systems in the country, we are sure to see more artists making it past the massive gap between starting out in the music industry and fading away. Let’s hope the same can be applied outside of the gospel scene and throughout the music industry.
