Kampala - A couple who spent the night at a lodge in Uganda's western town of Mbarara got shocked Thursday morning when they were arrested for wetting the bed they slept on.
They had to pay a fine of UGX 20 000 (KES 600) for their release.
According to the proprietor of the lodge, Aston Mugarura, the couple booked the room last night and paid UGX 30 000 (KES 1 000) to spend the night in one of the rooms.
''Today morning as they were booking out, one of our workers went to the room to check if all was well. She was amazed when she found the mattress very wet. Apart from the mattress, it was also wet under the bed.''
He said that they stopped the couple from going away until they paid a fine of UGX 20 000.
He said they are aware that some women especially from that area eject a lot of fluid when making love, and so they put a sign at the door warning customers against wetting the beds.
''We have a notice printed at the entrance of our lodge saying that whoever wets the bed will pay a fine of UGX 20 000. Some people ask for polythene sheets to place on the mattress so that it does not get wet. Those who neglect the notice and wet the mattresses are fined UGX 20 000.''
Mugarura said that women in western Uganda are known for wetting beds during love making sessions because it is revered culturally. He said they take a lot of milk and ghee in order to achieve that.
