Mombasa - A couple has been charged in a Mombasa law court for stealing KES 10.8 million from a bank.

Tyson Mutisya Kimanzi and Grace Njeri denied all the charges before chief magistrate Stephen Riech.

It is was alleged that on February 27, 2015 at First Community Bank Kizingo branch in Mombasa, Kimanzi, being an employee of the bank conspired with Njeri to steal KES 10.8 million from the bank.

Kimanzi faced a second countof stealing KES 10.8 million from first community bank Kizingo branch, where he worked as a cash officer, on February 27.

The state prosecutor, Eugene Wangila informed the court that the accused persons were arrested while escaping to Arusha Tanzania and KES 4.7 million recovered from him.

The prosecutor made an application before the court not to release the accused on cash bail, and to have all the recovered cash serialized.

“We pray this court not to release the accused on cash bail since they may be in position of a liquid that they are suspected to have stolen from the compliant. We also pray that the recovered money be serialized and put in custody of the complainant for safe keeping,” said Wangila.

Magistrate Riech directed that all the recovered cash be serialized and the manager of First Community Bank under the supervision of the investigating officer and police provide the safety keeping of the money.

Kimanzi was released on a bond of KES 3 million and a surety of similar amount, while Njeri was released on a bond of KES 500 000 with a surety.

The case will be heard on May 27, 2015.
