The recently appointed 14 County Commissioners from Rift-Valley have reported and started dispatching their duties in their respective offices amid controversy surrounding their appointment by President Mwai Kibaki and calls for nullification.
Speaking in his office at Rift valley PC building, Nakuru County Commissioner, who was Central Rift regional Commissioner Amos Gathecha confirmed that all the 14 Commissioners in the area have reported to their offices from Thursday last week.
“The newly appointed commissioners by the president are in their offices as you can see me fully equipped to disseminate the work outlined by The Kenya Gazette and appointment published on 11th may this year.” Gathecha said.
Gathecha down played the current controversy surrounding their appointment by politicians who are claiming it is against the spirit of the new constitution hence calling for their nullification while the politicians allied to Prime Minister accusing the president of not consulting the premier.
“The work of the commissioners commenced from the time of appointment and will continue as we have not received contrary information from the appointing authority concerning the outcry from the politicians.”
Gethecha said he will be holding a meeting with all county officers who includes education, roads, labour, forest sectors at the end of this week to deliberate on how their will deliberate their work and duties within the county.
According to The Kenya Gazette, some of the work to be undertaken by the Commissioners will be provision of liaison, collaboration and partnership between the National government and the County government, coordinate security management coordinates the dissemination and implementation of national government policies and government and also manage and maintain administrative boundaries security, roads and airstrips.
Meanwhile The Provincial Commissioners will facilitate smooth transition to the devolved government.
Those who have reported are Kassim Farah, Narok , Abdi Rashid, Uasin Gishu, Mohammed Birik Keiyo/Marakwet, Charity Chepkonga, Transnzoia, Pauline Dola, Bomet, Esther Maina, Laikipia and Peter Okwanyo, West Pokot and have signed to the Rift Valley PC’s office Osman Warfa confirming their arrival in their new posts.
