The government through the Ministry of Local Government has given fire fighting vehicles to four Municipal Councils; Mandera, Nyeri, Embu and Kakamega respectively.
As he received one of the vehicles, Kakamega town mayor Matias Sichele said, “I thank the ministry for the vehicle, it has been my sincere prayer to have a strong fire fighting engine in the council.”
With an estimated value of KES 33 million, the vehicle can carry 10,000 litres of water. “We have been using a small engine that carries 2000 litres, but with this one, we are safe because you can not rush to a scene without enough water,” he said.
Sichele said that three personnel were sent to Nairobi for fire fighting training and he will soon be sending the entire fire brigade for further training to ensure that they acquire necessary skills to be able to fight a fire.

He urged residents to be vigilant and take care of the vehicle because it is beneficial not only to the county but also to the neighboring communities.

“I was happy when I saw this vehicle because we will not be waiting for a vehicle from West Kenya Sugar Company to come and put out a fire,” said David Atemba, a businessman in Kakamega town.
